Word is they are open for business as of today! I’ll be there soon. I can’t wait. Dreaming of cobbler, pie, jam and just eating them. Here are some of my previous posts on this favorite of mine:
In scanning the real estate listings in my other life I noticed that Frog Eye Farm; the most excellent pick your own blueberry farm that we have been patronizing over the years is up for sale. I was aware that the owner had been having some health issues. I hope all is well with him and whoever buys it keeps it up. Anyone for blueberry farming? Anyway as a hedge we will be planting a half dozen blueberry bushes on stately Fred Manor just to assure our supply.
In case you are interested the listing for the property can be found here.
UPDATE 4-23-12: The listing link is no longer valid. Anyone have an update on this property?
Received an email from Stacey who let me know that Frog Eye Farm will be opening this weekend! My previous posts will let you know why I am so excited about this. The big news for this year is that they intend to be open on weekdays as well as weekends. Now that the kids are (almost) off from school I shall press my child labor gang into action! I can’t wait.
Drove by the entrance and saw that the sign was out so that must mean that they are open for business. I’m assuming that they are only open on weekends like last year but that is unconfirmed. I’m going to try to go pick some this weekend, so I’ll let you know.
UPDATE 7/6/10: They are in full swing. We went there Saturday morning and picked a ton of delicious blueberries.
UPDATE 7/9/10: They have a website: Frog Eye Farm. Be sure to check it out. They say that they anticipate having berries through the end of July.
Frog Eye Farm is open for business! They finally put the sign out front. However this year the farm is only open on weekends. They have tons of blueberries. We’ve been eating so manyof them its a wonder we’re not all blue: cobbler, smoothies, red white and blue cake (for the 4th!) and just plain by the handful. The owner reported that due to the wet spring many varieties have ripened closer together so there is a bumper crop right now.
Here is last years post for those who want more information.
Mrs. F made a great discovery this week: Frog Eye Farm. Although not in Frederick County its just two miles north on route 67 from the Route 340/ 67 intersection. They grow fifteen different types of blueberries on his farm and have them available from Late June to Early August. Its pick your own so Mrs F and one of the Fredlings picked 13 pounds (at $3/pound). So far we have had tons of them just fresh, as well as blueberry sorbet, blueberry-peach (from our trees) cobbler and a blueberry pie is in the works today. They are absolutely delicious!
