Today, December 5th, is the 76th anniversary of the repeal of the 18th Amendment. The repeal took effect on this date when Utah became the final state to ratified the 21st Amendment. I’ll raise a glass to that! It brings to mind a quote that Sen. Morris Sheppard (D-Tx) made in 1930: “there is as much chance of repealing the eighteenth amendment as there is for a hummingbird to fly to the planet Mars with the Washington Monument tied to its tail.”
