Beaujolais Nouveau 2008

Long time readers will know my feelings on Beaujolais Nouveau.  Its just something I feel compelled to try each year.  I had kind of resolved that I was going to avoid the BN this year and try some of the better versions of Beaujolais out there.  However as I was waiting to purchase some other stuff [...]

Odds and Ends

1.  Volt is having a truffle tasting night tomorrow.  From their email:

For one night only, on Friday, November 21, VOLT invites you to an evening of gastronomic indulgence. Welcoming guests into the Chef’s Dining Room, Chef will craft a seven-course tasting menu highlighting the decadent white truffle. Hailing from Italy’s luxurious Piedmont region, VOLT honors [...]

Happy Anniversary- Part III: A Look Ahead

This is the last post in my anniversary extravaganza.  I wanted to let you know of some things I have planned for the blog.  New Year’s resolutions if you will.
1.  I want to increase the number of wine reviews.  As you may tell wine is my passion and I want to continue to highlight good values that are [...]

Happy Anniversary- Part II: Things I learned

In reflecting back on my one year anniversary here are some things I learned in the first year of doing this.  Some of them may be blindingly obvious but here they are (in no particular order):
1.  Good writing is hard.  I can hear some of you crying saying ’Fred what the heck do you know about good [...]

Frederick News Post Rant (Again)

I interrupt my planned series of anniversary posts to bring you the following rant.  Maybe I am just feeling cranky today, but another FNP article about food and drink irritated me.  As mentioned earlier the Beaujolais Nouveau season is almost upon us.  In yesterdays  Post there was an article about Linganore Wine Cellars releasing a new wine:  [...]

Happy Anniversary to Me

Well it is hard to believe but this little blog, which I started really on a whim and with no real plans or goals is coming up on its one year anniversary.   I really never expected anyone to read it, in fact I didn’t even tell Mrs. F about it until I was about three months into it, but as the anniversary [...]

Isabella’s still rules

Long time readers will know of my feelings for Isabellas.  My last review of the restaurant is here.  Well just want to say that I have eaten there a couple of times since then, including dinner over the weekend and its still at the top of my list in places to dine in Frederick.  It’s great with [...]

Cristallino- A Value Sparkler

Continuing in my never ending quest for good wine at a good price I want to pass on a decent value that I had the other day.  Its a Spanish Non-Vintage Cava called Cristallino Cava Brut.   Cava is Spanish sparkling wine and has a reputation for having some great values.  Under Spanish law, it can only be produced [...]

Beaujolais Nouveau is nearly upon us

My general thoughts on Beaujolais can be found in my post  here last year on the subject.  In anticipation (is that really the right word?) of the Beaujolais Nouveau release date I have been reading I’ll Drink To That:  Beaujolais and the French Peasant Who Made It The  World’s Most popular Wine by Rudolph Chelminski
from, of course, the Frederick County [...]

Reflections on Fish and Chips

This comment by Mazeway on Frederick Maryland Online (who BTW writes the great blog The Frederick Vegetarian -link at right) got me thinking about fish and chips.  Rarely has a dish consistently disappointed me more.  I lived for several years in England and  love fish and chips, but across the board I have been uniformly disappointed whenever I order it in the States.  [...]
